Church of St. Tatiana in Odessa
The first and only Ukrainian student’s church appeared in Odessa, and that happened not so long ago. Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana at Odessa National Academy of Law was opened on 3 September 2006. This event is significant not only for Odessa, but also for the whole country.
The blessing of the Metropolitan of Odessa and Izmail Arafangel to build a new church was obtained in 2000, and in 6 years it opened and was blessed by Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir.
Church of St. Tatiana in Odessa can be named as people’s church, because it was built with donations of faculty and students at the National Academy of Law, as well as common citizens of Odessa. Everyone gave money – even for one or two hryvnyas. The students took part in the construction of the church – they were cleaning the area, taking out the garbage, planting trees on the territory or the temple and helping the builders.
To date, the student’s church of Holy Tatyana at Odessa National Academy of Law is like a spiritual center for the students not only in Odessa, but the whole of Ukraine. This is actually one of the most prominent places in Odessa.
Tatyana's Day is both Students day, which is celebrated every year on 25 December. In the Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana in Odessa, this day marks the feast day, to hold church services, after which with the help of students and teachers of Odessa National Academy of Law arrange a charity dinner for the parishioners of the church. This good tradition is followed by more than a year.
To date, the Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana in Odessa is the pride of Odessa people, and it’s also interesting for its architecture and vocation, because it’s the student church, the only one of its kind.
